Dance came before everything — the studio at five, contemporary ballet through my teens, and then a slower drift into the kind of presence that doesn't require a stage. I keep an apartment in Denver and a permanent itch for the mountains. My happiest evenings are those that begin over a long bottle of wine and end somewhere unexpected. Isabella pulls me gently toward the quieter conversations; I pull her, equally gently, onto the dance floor.
